Description

The session will be delivered by Building Knowledge Canada (Toby Smith and Alexis Minniti) and will focus on complex challenges related to window selection, installation and changing codes. We will examine and explain the upcoming Building Code Updates including the new CSA A440.4 standard for window installation. Tools and criteria for decision-making will be presented. Topics will include design detailing and installation techniques for durability in wood-frame, low-rise, single-family homes, with or without exterior rigid insulation, and with flanged or box-frame installations. Energy performance, airtightness, and ‘critical barriers’ will be discussed, along with the implications for carbon, resilience, and affordability, with a glance at new technology. Tiered performance standards will be demonstrated with solutions from leading manufacturers.
